To confirm the doorway to the bathroom was actually an original doorway to the back porch, we removed the gypsum board on either side of the jam to examine the beadboard. In the photo, to the left of the opening the new framing that was added at the time of the bathroom addition to reduced the width of the doorway can be seen. The vanish/paint line on the original interior beadboard confirms the trim around the doorway measured an overall width of 41 inches when it was first built. This is consistant with the paint line on the beadboard around the doorway to the bedroom. Had this opening originally been a window, the measurement would have been consistant with the other windows in the house which is 36 inches.
