In the Hollow behind the Tryon Depot, Carrol is "feeling" his way to help locate the house they lived in before moving to East Livingston Street where Eunice was born. In the right of the image is Prince Canady's house where (we found out later) his widow Katherine was watching the going-ons from the breakfast window -- not knowing who Carrol was at the time this picture was taken. Prince was a very good friend with Carrol's older brother John Irving. Later, Carrol and Katherine will meet on her front porch after not seeing each other for many years.
