EW Birthplace

Fred Counts, childhood friend and classmate of Eunice Waymon stops by to see the progress. When he saw the house emerging from under the siding he announced, "You're into the meat of the coconut, now." Here he has just finished telling a story about the Lyles House that stood next door to the Birthplace for nearly 88 years.

Fred has fond memories of playing with Eunice Waymon in Mr. Lyles' backyard which served as a playground for the children in the community complete with a tennis court. The circa 1915 Lyles House and store were torn down in 2003.
